Book Review Cortavia Southard Book Review 9/10/15 3A
You against me By: Jenny Downham, Genre: Fiction
In this book I really enjoyed reading it, because it was a type of book that I can relate to in a certain almost similar way. When I first grabbed this book I thought it would be boring, but it turned out to be something good. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was at the end, when the book said The End. I don’t think the book needed that.
The two main characters are Ellie and Mikey. Ellie changed because at the beginning of the book she was on her brothers side that he was innocent and didn’t do anything wrong. And she wasn’t trying to date anyone at the time because she didn’t trust people anymore. But at the end of the book she started too really like Mikey and started dating. Mikey changed a lot because he was going to Ellies house to get her brother for what he did. And started to fall for Ellie during the process to really find out what happened that night during the party. I like the outcome of the book because they both liked each other, but didn’t say anything till everything was over and done with her brother and the situation that happened.
The book takes place at Ellie’s house. They were throwing a party for her brother returning home, they live in a huge house in the suburbs with a great big fence that you have to wait till someone let you in. It is nowhere to where I’m living at.
The whole conflict of the story was that Ellie’s brother Tom was accused of raping this girl that was at their first house part. And they sent him to jail and Ellie said she seen them out of her bedroom window hugging and kissing then she went to bed. And once she went to school everyone was making her uncomfortable by asking questions that she can’t respond to. And that’s where Mikey and his friends come in at, they were upset because Tom rapped there friend and wanted to hurt him for what he had done. Everything became resolved when they finally went to court and the stories didn’t add up together and Tom was free and that the girl lied.
The theme I learned was to know your surroundings and to be able to have people that you can trust and rely on. The story at the end shows that Ellie and Mikey start to date and continue what they were building. I wouldn’t change anything about the book. I would recommend the book to someone and tell them that the book is really good and it’s something that might catch their attention.
