Once my engine starts up I can feel myself heating up to pull off going on another adventure. I feel so alive while my driver is controlling every move I make, I have so much energy until I start to lose energy from losing gas. but once I get filled back up no one can stop my move. when I'm on my adventure the hard wind smacks my face like someone hitting someone else in a on-going fight.

smart, nice, friendly, loving sister of Corey lover of chicken, fries and steak fears of bugs, snakes, many other types of animals who needs support, motivation gives trust, honesty and loyalty likes to see my uncle again resident of Louisville, KY Southard More than 564,708 people were homeless on given night in the United States. In that number 206,286 were people in families and couldn’t provide the income to support their family, 358,422 were people who were just individual who couldn’t keep providing for themselves. People who are living in the United States should be given a chance to get back on their feet, if there were homeless people who were addicted to drugs then you can put them in rehab to prevent them from going back to their old ways. Also people are trying to get back on their feet themselves people are still not giving them the opportunity to get a job. Every year about 700 homeless people die because they not eating or they have a bad health condition that they can’t get treated, or that they not surviving through the winter because they don’t have the proper clothing to keep them warm. My poster shows different examples of homeless people, we got children that is hungry, homeless man wanting food, and we have a homeless man sleeping in a tent in need of money and or help.

From the moment I turned 16 years old I was ready to start driving. My dad was telling me I should study for the permit because there’s a lot of stuff I don’t know about driving. But I was so sure that I was going to pass on the first try. One day after school my dad came and picked me up from school and took me out to Bolman Field. Bolman Field is where you go when you take your permit, drivers test, and to get your license renewed. The whole time I was in the car I was so nervous trying to remember what everyone has told me what could be on the test. We pulled up and my heart started racing so fast, that my hands started shaking, I became very anxious to go inside and start on the test. When I got inside the building to begin my test, there were twenty on the road questions and ten questions about the different signs you would see while driving. While I was taking the test I felt real confident that I was doing a good job. But once I went to the lady after I got done she told me that I didn’t pass and that crushed me. She said we could only miss three questions on the whole test and I missed almost six. And once I walked out to my dad he was smiling at me and the only thing I could do was shake my head at him, and he said well you will get it next time. I ended up waiting almost a whole month before I went back and tried again. I wanted to be able to make sure that I was studying this time. The day I went back I passed the test and I was so excited, because I knew what was already on the test and how many questions I could miss. They gave me the paper work to take to the front desk and had to take my picture for my permit and I ran out to the car to my brother and shoved him. He was so proud of me and I told him to hop over because I wanted to drive all the way back home. Six months after taking the permit test my dad was working with me on everything for the driver’s test. We even had my cousin to ride out to Bolman Field with us so she can take me through the whole test. I done everything right up to the point when I got to the parallel parking. We was in my dad’s Escalade truck and me trying to park that huge truck into the tiny place was very difficult. My dad jumped out the car to help guide me into the spot and I just couldn’t figure it out and it was getting so frustrating. Because I had my mom in one ear giving me directions on what to do, then had my cousin in the other ear and then have my dad outside yelling telling me what to do. Trying to listen to all three of them and they all telling me different things to do I just couldn’t take it anymore and decided to stop for the day. Few days later just my dad and I went back out there and it was so much better, it was much easier than the first time with two extra people in the car. It was the best time that we could have went out there, because no one else is there on the field practicing on the parallel parking, which gives you more time to do it over and over again until you get it right. First my dad showed me what to do to be able to get the truck into the parking spot. Then it was my turn, I couldn’t get it my first try but after the second try I was able to get it, I felt really ready that I could pass the actual test. The day of my driver’s test I was so excited but very nervous. My test was at nine o’clock in the morning and if you showed up late for your appointment you wouldn’t be able to take it. While my mom and I was on our way there we ended up getting stuck in traffic which made it worse on the time because we had about twenty minutes to get there and traffic was moving very slow. We arrived at 8:50 so that was good, went inside and got my paperwork looked at and told me to bring the truck around to the number I was assigned. The man came out and asked to see the insurance and my mom’s ID. Once he did that he asked her to get out the car and for me to hop in it. He wanted to see if all the head lights, tail lights, horn, windshield wipers, horn, and breaks were working. Then he got into the car with me and asked if I had any questions and I asked how many chances I get on the parallel parking. He told me I can have a lot of chances but I’m pretty sure that he would have taken off points if it took you more than three tries. We began the test and he had me to do the parallel parking first and that was the main concern I was having and mostly nervous about. At the moment I was just trying to remember how my dad showed me to do the parallel parking in my head. To pull up pass the barrier so that my tail end would be right at it. Then turn on my blinker to signal the other drivers behind me that I was about to park, turn my wheel all the way to the right and let go of the brakes a little so that I can be able to adjust myself into the spot. All I was thinking in my head was not to hit the curb or the car being me meaning the two barriers the one in the front and the other in the back. In my dad’s truck there’s a sensor that beeps to tell you when you getting close to a car or object. And I was judging myself on the beeper when it was going off. Within three to five minutes I was in the parking position nicely, no hitting the curb or anything. After finishing the test we pulled back up to where we started at, and that’s when he gave me the good news I was looking for the whole time. He told me that I passed the test after making two mistakes but he said I still ended up doing a good job. Once we got out the car I looked at my mom and started smiling so hard and that’s when she knew that I had passed the test. We went inside and he got the orange sticker to put on my permit card and it was the best feeling ever. I had all the freedom I could ask for when I was able to just hop in the car without my parents being inside with me. But I had to be back home before twelve o’clock the next morning. I was almost never home when I had gotten my intermediate. I was always out with friends and family having a good time. After that six months basically having to wait a whole year to really get your driver’s license. Went back and had to get a whole new picture taken and gave me a new card that said driver’s license. To be able to drive by myself at any time I want, couldn’t be any better because I don’t have to wait for my parents to take me somewhere when they are ready. I can just hop in my car and go anywhere I want, of course with my parents approval. Cortavia Southard (8/23/15)
Writing a piece about yourself can be challenging because you don’t want to keep repeating yourself during your writing. In order for me to write good and have the reader to understand what I’m talking about has to make sense to me and to also make sense to them. When I’m writing I need a peaceful environment, a system that I can follow to understand better or to even keep me on track about what I’m saying. And to go back and see how my process of the writing piece is working for me. The first thing before I start writing I find the quiet place in my home so I won’t get thrown off of what I’m trying to talk about. Sometimes when I’m at home and trying to do some homework I have a lot of distractions, either my dog is barking at everyone or anything he sees outside, or the TV is up really loud or my parents are on the phone talking really loud. And any of these types of distractions can really make me lose focus so quick. A lot of people said when they write they either like a cold room or a hot room. But for me I prefer to be in a warm room because it will keep me awake and alert to what I need to be doing. Cold environments can make people become tired because that’s how they like to sleep and they will end up falling asleep during the time of the work. The worst thing to do is laying down in your bed trying to write, because you won’t be up for a long time. Your body is going to start to shut down and you’re going to go to sleep. I prefer to be sitting down and writing on a table because I won’t be as tired as I would be by laying down. While I’m in the process of writing I like to have something to eat like some chips and juice. It’s better for me to have everything I need when I first start so I don’t have to keep getting up and wasting time. The process I do before I start typing the paper is to get as much information to put into my work. I also try and put examples in my paper to see if someone could relate to some of the same situations and process as I follow. My process works for me because then I won’t have to re-start over because I did something wrong. Once I finish with everything I like to ask someone to read it to see what they think about my paper, to see if I might need to add something or take something away from it. Once everything is finished then I will go over it and re-read it to make sure I didn’t spell anything wrong. To me my writing process over the past few years has come a long way. Because I didn’t use to know how to write a proper paper the right way. Or to really go into detail about the work where people can relate to when they are reading it. Writing is something that I like to do because its fun and I have a lot to say something about when the writing topic is good. |
